Here come the cannabis haters

February 1st, 2014 | By

A young woman tragically died recently. What is more tragic is that somehow, her unexpected death has been blamed on cannabis toxicity – something which has never happened before in human history.

It seems that reefer madness is alive and well in the UK.

I could be wrong, but it would not surprise me at all if ‘big alcohol’ are not somehow behind this story.

It is disgusting how this woman’s death is being used by the media for political gain. What a surprise that only weeks after so much positive press about cannabis appeared, something completely negative like this hits the press.

Absolutely terrible.

How must her poor family feel now as arguments arise about what actually happened to their daughter.

Steve over at Tokesignals has put together a sensible response, which quotes experts from across the US. Clearly what is going on here is some kind of media spin.

“In 40 years I have never come across deaths from cannabis alone,”

said David Raynes of the National Drug Prevention Alliance.

“One doctor’s note should not take precedence over decades of research demonstrating it is impossible to die from a marijuana overdose,”

said Mason Tvert, communications director for the Marijuana Policy Project.

“The fact that this is ‘news’ is telling, as it’s only novel because there is no significant evidence that it has ever happened before. That raises a lot of questions about its validity and the doctor’s competence.”

“According to all available studies, there has never been a death linked directly to cannabis use in human history,”

says Morgan Fox, MPP’s communications manager.

“We can blame cannabis prohibition and the stigma attached to the study of the plant’s effects for the relative ignorance of physicians when it comes to cannabis and the endocannabinoid system”

“The pathologist involved really needs to do more research on the subject instead of brushing off the cause of this young woman’s death on the first available explanation”

“Her family and the general public deserve better.”

And there’s more.

“It is highly unlikely that Gemma Moss died from smoking marijuana”

said Lisa Roche-Kuprian, RN, CCRC, CRNI. She continues:

“It is my professional opinion that additional toxicology testing and a full autopsy be performed to rule out underlying medical conditions before placing blame on marijuana as a cause of death.”

There was some level headed coverage from the New York Daily. Well done to them.

This is one of the problems there is with the British media. They are allowed to do what the hell they like. Facts do not come into it.  Lives are ruined and ignorance spread because of what these papers get away with day in and day out.

A recent enquiry into the British press by Lord Leveson was ignored by Cameron, a very untrustworthy man with a penchant for victimising the poor and disabled.
